On Gumshoe, Samantha Crain allows a sense of hope to reverberate…
Who’s the Gumshoe Samantha Crain references on her latest release? No mystery there; as a child, she was hooked on the classic kids’ TV show Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, and got Lynn Thigpen‘s catchphrase “Good work, gumshoe!” stuck in her head.
“Gumshoe” stayed with the Oklahoma-based artist for years, though the word was admittedly a bit tough to work into a song. But it’s now the title of Crain’s seventh LP, a collaborative effort with her band exploring the journey from isolation into vulnerability, forming (and nurturing) relationships, community, and being open to others helping you.
Crain is in Austin for a performance tonight at Mohawk on the indoor stage. Doors at 7 p.m., with Oklahoma City artist Penny Pitchlynn’s musical project Labrys opening the show.
