You have to chalk this one up as an instant Austin Music Minute fave. First and foremost, you have the music and talent of Los Angeles-based band Lord Huron, and more of their storytelling artistry with their second full-length, Strange Trails. Secondly, dig deeper (and you really should) and you’ll discover the richly-detailed and multi-layered narratives within Strange Trails venture into more trippy territory inspired by classic science fiction and horror stories. (There’s something damned impressive about band founder Ben Schneider throwing out names like Alan Moore and Charles Burns as references; and let’s not forget Lonesome Dreams weaver George Ranger Johnson and a certain protagonist by the name of Lord Huron, so of course, this entire business has your AMM host is geeking out like mad…)
You may have caught Lord Huron’s performance in Studio 1A earlier today. Treat yourself and see them tonight at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, along with another fantastic artist who performed in Studio 1A today, Fort Worth-based songwriter Leon Bridges. Doors open at 7 p.m. Great stuff all around. Then hang out with Lord Huron as they do a DJ set in Stubb’s indoor venue after the show. Recommended.
