Go on. Have a slice. A singular voice like Scott Yoder’s goes glam and beyond.
Today’s AMM brought you “Sing Your Broken Song” from Scott Yoder‘s fourth LP, Scooter Pie, but quite a buzz surrounds the dreamy “Hole Heart.” Rightly so. Actually, something dreamlike and utterly striking brings the entire album to another level. And describing the Seattle-based artist as simply “glam-folk” doesn’t do him justice. True, Yoder summons undeniable ‘70s psych/glam/pop superpowers in the vein of The Kinks, Bowie, Marc Bolan, even a touch of Todd Rundgren, but there’s far more to explore here. Yoder’s songwriting is an extraordinary presence. This is no mere homage, but an evolving legacy.
Make this your Monday night destination. Catch Scott Yoder at his show tonight, Monday April 15, at Chess Club on Red River, on a bill featuring trash-glam punks Lord Friday the 13th, and eight-piece folk outfit Middle Sattre. Doors at 7 p.m.
