The ghosts are real, tho’. Sunny War’s Armageddon In A Dress digs deep into identity.
The things that go bump in the night are unsettling. And also inspiring. Take Sunny War’s LP Armageddon In A Summer Dress, of which the essence was borne of eerie shadows and spectral sensations. To put it this way, for context: Songwriter/vocalist Sydney Ward could’ve sworn her late father’s 100-year-old house in Chattanooga, TN was haunted. Why wouldn’t it be?
It turns out there were gas leaks. Admittedly slightly more alarming due to health concerns rather than hallucinations. But this didn’t hamper Ward’s creative vision, her exploration of the ghosts of past selves. In a way, it was a real haunting, a dive into the memories shaping one’s identity.
Sunny War’s highly-anticipated Austin show is tonight at Radio East, featuring songwriter and master over-sharer Al Olender, and Heavy Gus performing as a duo. Doors at 7 p.m.
