Jared Blair is a familiar presence in the local music scene, performing with a number of artists such as Emily Bell. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he’d been mulling over the idea of putting a band together, but it wasn’t until he was asked to list ten of his favorite bands that something struck him. He looked at his list and his jaw dropped; eight out of the ten he thought of were from Texas, and they represented more than just one musical style. They were literally coming from all over the spectrum.
That’s when it occurred to Blair that this would be his own band’s foundation, unconfined to one genre. He got together some of his favorite musicians and launched Blynd Birds, a raucous “rock and ruin” quartet keeping it real by keeping the music up front with generous doses of strange.
Blynd Birds has a new EP, Sure For Certain, and they’re celebrating with a release show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. It’s another fantastic bill with Anthony Da Costa and Neosho. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
