Taking Surreal Estate to the West Coast

This is one of the few bands I can think of whose guitar shredding literally makes me swoon. No, seriously. Your Austin Music Minute maven likes to rock, and Megafauna delivers the goods.

The local rock powerhouse trio brings the rock with a rather intricate mix of multiple influences – prog, punk, metal, and classic rock. Front woman Dani Neff’s vocals push it over the top in extraordinary ways, which you’ll hear on their full-length release Surreal Estate. And let us not forget that the bone-rattling turbulence of Neff’s monster riffs set your pulse racing. Even Nathan Explosion might admit, “Man. That’s brutal.”

But all my geeky references aside, this is one of those live experiences you need to put on your list of must-see’s. Speaking of live shows, Megafauna is about to hit the road for a West Coast tour, right at the time they’re releasing a vinyl edition of Surreal Estate. Don’t miss their tour kickoff and vinyl release show tonight at The Mohawk, 912 Red River. The show is chock-full of all local goodness: The Boxing Lesson, Future Humans and The Couch. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the music starts at 9:30 p.m. Recommended.
