Another year, and SXSW has come and gone, but it always manages to leave quite a few of us a bit ragged, even long after the fact. It’s a week later, and even your humble Austin Music Minute hostess is finding it rather difficult to shake the madness completely off. But the music must go on! And we have Hard Proof Afrobeat to hook us up, whether you’re winding down or itching to see a show again without outrageously long lines everywhere.
Hard Proof Afrobeat is sharing a bill with La Guerilla and Como Las Movies for a fantastic party, AFTER THE FESTIVAL WIND DOWN, Saturday night at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the indoor stage. Plenty of dancing to do with this lot. Hard Proof is one of the biggest, baddest bands in town, known for their tantalizing hybrid of Nigerian Afrobeat, funk and jazz grooves. It’s always crazy in the house when they invade the stage. Be on the look out for new Hard Proof vinyl coming soon. La Guerilla is the musical project of Peruvian songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Enrique Rumiche, featuring the talents of drummer Paul Joseph Loney III, and trombonist/rapper Zumbi. Enough Latin funk, soul, rock, hip-hop and a multitude of other grooves to keep you going nonstop. And get ready to dance to the funky jams of Como Las Movies, featuring former members of local band Maneja Beto.
It’s all good, baby. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the music starts at 10 p.m. A party that only Austin peeps know how to throw down. Highly recommended.
