Like-minded music freaks appreciate the joys of geeking out over their favorite bands. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that your humble Austin Music Minute host sings the praises of friend, colleague and fellow local music supporter Aasim Syed, who decided that the best way to celebrate his birthday this year – natch – would be with some of his favorite local bands.
Syed curated tonight’s birthday festivities at Hotel Vegas with a fantastic bill filled with AMM favorites:
– Ladies and gents, behold the beauty of the enigma that is John Wesley Coleman. Great music. Pants optional.
– Songwriter Michael Booher (just call him Booher, it’s okay) will bring on the night with his rendition of songs by Pavement. Wowee zowee, this’ll be great.
– Major pop-rock goodness from Sally Crewe & The Sudden Moves. You will rock. You will roll. Actually, both.
– Fiery power trio ThinkNoThink unleashes unbridled rock to ignite your ears. Don’t be shy. Just rock out.
– Improvisational noise combo Art Acevedo starts the night with super sonic freak-outs. Resistance is futile.
Get to Hotel Vegas, 1500 E. 6th St., tonight after 9 p.m. The music begins at 10 p.m. A very happy birthday to Aasim, and here’s to another year of outstanding local music.
