It’s not all black metal in Norway. Slomosa unleashes heavy stoner rock on their forthcoming LP.

Norway’s black metal scene is more than a music scene. The AMM would argue it’s part of the cultural fabric, like the imposing and awe-inspiring Sverd i Fjell. It’s also credited with the creation of the genre, and branches out into several sub-genres. True, it’s not for everybody, but there’s no denying its influence.

Then again, it’s not all black. Bergen-based Slomosa puts out a distinctive brand of stoner rock that even moves beyond that. Their new album Tundra Rock, out Friday, weighs in with a title suggesting a Norwegian version of what feels like desert rock, only this heaviness comes from the land of ice and snow.

“Rice” is the track featured on today’s AMM. Get that album as soon as it’s out. And don’t forget Slomosa brings their tour through Austin for a show tomorrow night, Tuesday Sept. 10, at Mohawk on the indoor stage. Doors at 8 p.m., with Austin artist Lauren Lakis opening the show.
