Tomar and The FCs & Bidi Bidi Banda play the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic benefit tonight at The ABGB.
The story of the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic begins in 1966, when the Ladies of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Theresa’s Church recognized a gap in access to medical services for underserved communities. They persuaded private physicians to see patients free of charge, which initiated the Medical Referral Service, the clinic’s original name.
With the assistance of retired physician, Dr. John McCabe, the clinic was operated in several borrowed spaces. Years later, the clinic’s board of directors purchased the current address at 4215 Medical Parkway, and gave the clinic a new name to more accurately reflect the countless individuals giving their time, effort and support to the cause: Volunteer Healthcare Clinic.
In 2018, Tuned to Health made its debut, a VHC benefit incorporating live music as part of the fundraising experience. And tonight, soul outfit Tomar and the FCs and Selena tribute band Bidi Bidi Banda will bring sensational performances for this year’s event at The ABGB on W. Oltorf, 6-10 p.m. You can find ticket information at VHC’s website, and tickets are also available at the door.
