There’s no turning back the clock. Bent Knee weathers the storm on their latest LP.
Sometimes change hits like a sucker punch, not gradually but a shock to the system. What’s worse, though? The actual turn of events, or the seemingly insurmountable wave of emotions afterward?
Boston-based quartet Bent Knee explores the anxiety and depression resulting from shattering upheaval on their seventh studio LP, Twenty Pills Without Water, out tomorrow via Take This To Heart Records. Citing influences like Phoebe Bridgers, Prince, and Rainbows-era Radiohead, they intertwine different textures and aesthetics to convey some of the inner chaos after unexpected changes. Nostalgia is upended in unforeseen ways. Even the album title is soul-crushing. The numbing won’t come soon enough.
Bent Knee brings their tour to Empire Control Room on E. 7th for a show tonight, Thursday Aug. 29, featuring a damn solid line-up with Austin rockers Megafauna and Transit Method. Doors at 7 p.m.
