Unsuspecting Ears

Rock can be fast, furious and immediate, in a way that keeps you head-banging in time to the rhythm. But sometimes…sometimes it’s even better when it creeps up on you, like a slow burn inching toward unsuspecting ears. Then BAM. You’re crushed and annihilated. And you like it.

Wolf Alice moves with such skill – and volume going past eleven. Their EP Creature Songs has this marvelous way of luring you in with softer, calm-before-the-storm psych-folk strums and quiet vocals before annihilating your eardrums with psychotic grunge-riff guitar shreds.

Wolf Alice’s much-anticipated full-length debut is due for release late next month, but you can see them tonight at Holy Mountain on E. 7th. LA-based band Gateway Drugs opens the show. Doors open at 9 p.m. Act quickly; chances are good this one may sell out. So recommended.
