Kevin Collins addresses the chapters never included in History Books.
Pre-dating Kev Bev, even before Kev Bev and The Woodland Creatures, your AMM host experienced a performance by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kevin Collins at, of all places, the Quickie Pickie at E. 11th St. and Rosewood. True story, maybe around 2015 or so. Those vocals stopped people in their tracks at the cozy bodega spot. No one was expecting live music there, but the same could be said for Collin’s clear and vibrant voice rising above the din.
Today’s version of Collins’ colorful and talented ensemble continues a tradition of uplifting energy paired with a passionate determination for truth-seeking on the new Kev Bev single “History Books,” the title track to their forthcoming LP as featured on the KUTX Song of the Day, inspired by the stories and experiences of marginalized people intentionally left out of any historical fabric. Check out the incredible video for the song, then head out to The ABGB on W. Oltorf for Kev Bev’s release show this Friday, March 22. They share the bill with synth pop-rockers Bali Yaaah. The music starts at 8 p.m.
