On today’s Austin Music Minute, we have not only one but two new releases to recognize, and both bands behind the new music are sharing the bill for a spectacular double-release show Saturday night at Antone’s, 2015 E. Riverside Dr.
Talk about a party and a half. Brace yourself for the raucous energy of the high-spirited McMercy Family Band and songwriter Konrad Wert‘s one-man musical tornado Possessed By Paul James. The McMercy Family’s new release, Hallelujah Anyhow, is a grand mix of traditional and not-so-traditional gospel shakedowns with plenty of glorious vocal harmonies, while PBPJ’s album, There Will Be Nights When I’m Lonely, shatters all expectation in a fierce and celebratory frenzy of powerful roots, folk and yes, even punk.
Make plans to do Saturday night at Antone’s, and catch Country Willie starting out the night at 9 p.m. Recommended.
