It all started with an idea launched during the summer – a fun-in-the-sun ’70s summer camp-themed soiree known as Emily Bell’s SummerCamp! Attendees were encouraged to wear their bathing suits, local bands came out to play for the party, and some of the proceeds went to community non-profits. Eye In the Sky music collective was at the helm alongside Bell and songwriter John Evans organizing the event.
The summer’s come and gone (sort of…judging by these unseasonably warm temperatures during the alleged winter months…whatever winter is), but the fun continued with the event’s sister series, WinterCamp!, this time partnering Eye In the Sky and Bell with songwriter Jonny Burke for intimate showcases Tuesday nights throughout December at Holy Mountain. Among the featured artists were Evans, Arum Rae (of the now disbanded White Dress), and Elijah Ford & The Bloom.
This Christmas happened to fall on a Tuesday, so Bell and crew put on a special show Christmas night at Holy Mountain, 617 E. 7th St. There were performances by Bell, Burke and special guests, one of whom might just have been jolly old St. Nick himself.
