My KUTX: Adam Torres & Thor Harris

Austin’s Thor Harris has drummed in a lot of really different projects: he can go from Swans’ dark, experimental rock to the sweeping grandeur of Shearwater and still find room for the subtlety of Bill Callahan. He also heads up his own avant-chamber ensemble, Thor & Friends, which is releasing an album this fall and playing at the Cactus Cafe on Saturday, September 10.

Harris pulls double-duty that night, since he also plays with headliner Adam Torres. They worked together on Torres’ stunner of an album, Pearls To Swine, out September 9, and this week on My KUTX, they’re tag-teaming as guest DJs. Harris flaunts his deep love for prog rock (no apologies needed) and Torres talks about the folk singers that have most influenced him as a songwriter. They also talk about hanging out with Glen Campbell and (kinda) meeting Neil Young–it’s a fun episode. Tune in Saturday, September 3 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime at the bottom of the page.
