My KUTX is usually recorded in a windowless studio here at KUTX, and for years, we’ve wanted to take the thing outdoors, get some fresh air, and work on our tans. Last weekend, we finally got the chance. We teamed up with the University of Texas for a special My KUTX live taping at Banger’s to help kick off SXSW 2023.
My guest for this episode was Tim League. He’s the co-founder of the Alamo Drafthouse, one of the most popular cinema chains not just in Austin but around the country. For over two decades, the Drafthouse has been screening movies the way they’re supposed to be screened: with delicious food and absolutely no talking during the film. League is also a big music fan, and his taste is all over the place. I had a blast talking to him about his wide-ranging musical experiences: DJing the graveyard shift at Rice’s college radio station; his high school Prince snobbery; his deep love of epic Nigerian funk; his appearance on a Fugazi live recording. Hear an edited version of League’s DJ set on Saturday, March 18 at 6 p.m. or listen to the full live episode at the top of the page.
