Buffalo Hunt

My KUTX // April 9, 2022

Acting first took Stephanie Hunt from Austin to Los Angeles, where she appeared in Friday Night Lights, Glee, and Californication. Music has also led her to some interesting places. A decade ago, Stephanie teamed up with Will & Grace star Megan Mullally. The pair toured the world as the singing duo Nancy & Beth, showing off their Broadway-inspired musical charm.

And it’s music that’s also kept Stephanie rooted in Austin. She’s collaborated with T Bird & the Breaks, Shakey Graves, and the Black Angels’ Alex Maas and Christian Bland, but now she’s striking out on her own as Buffalo Hunt. Her debut, Ambitions Of Ambiguity, comes out on April 29, delayed nearly two years by the pandemic. It’s a lush collection of psychedelic pop, recorded with the help of ace country/soul outfit the Texas Gentlemen. They’ll back Stephanie as she performs her debut in its entirety on April 30 at the Parish.

This week on My KUTX, Stephanie offers up a fun guest DJ set featuring the music that’s inspired her across her life, including the Beatles’ comedic gags, Björk’s originality, the torch songs of Elaine Stritch and La Lupe, and more. Hear Buffalo Hunt’s My KUTX on Saturday, April 9 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime in the player above.
