Deezie Brown is the KUTX Artist of the Month for August 2022.
Deezie Brown grew up in Bastrop, Texas listening to UGK and Outkast. There’s a definite Southern twang to his rap, with an emphasis on working class struggles, but Deezie isn’t afraid to take bold swings. His debut was a concept album centered around biblical themes, tackling both internal and external struggles. He’s also one half of Geto Gala, a team up with Jake Lloyd that mixes hard-edged rap with jazz and R&B flourishes.
On August 19th, Deezie celebrates the release of his new album Fifth Wheel Fairytale at Hotel Vegas. He and Jake Lloyd are also bringing their Geto Gala project to the fourth-annual Summer Jam on August 27th at the Long Center, hosted by The Breaks and presented by KUTX and KAZI. This week on My KUTX, Deezie takes over as our guest DJ. He plays an hour of influences, ranging from dad-approved D’Angelo and JAY-Z to deep dives into ’80s pop and beyond. Hear Deezie Brown’s My KUTX on Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime in the player at the top of the page.
