My KUTX: Justin Sherburn

Justin Sherburn’s musical resume ranges from guitar and keyboards for Okkervil River, composing music for film, and even writing soundtracks for local dance companies. The Austin native also heads up Montopolis, a band that blurs the boundaries between classical, folk, and experimental music.

Montopolis is celebrating its new album Music For Enchanted Rock with a multi-media event at the North Door on Sunday, November 12 at 7 p.m. The record is a meditation on our local landmark, mixing country music with ambient textures, equal parts Brian Eno and Willie Nelson. The North Door event will feature a performance of the album alongside Rip Shaub’s photography of Enchanted Rock.

It’s no wonder that Sherburn’s guest DJ set is one of the most eclectic yet. Sonic Youth, film music, and yodeling cowboys all fit together in this wonderful mix, proving just how adept a composer Sherburn is. Hear Justin Sherburn’s My KUTX on Saturday, November 11, 6-7 p.m. or anytime at the bottom of the page.
