Leti Garza

My KUTX // March 20, 2021

Leti Garza’s music is uniquely unclassifiable. The Austin singer blends bilingual lyrics with folk influences from around the world, and she also recently collaborated with Austin’s Michael Ramos on an electronic-leaning remix, making lemonade out of 2020’s lemons. This range isn’t too surpising, since Leti Garza is related to the trailblazing Eva Garza, an internationally-renowned musician who opened doors for female and Mexican-American artists starting in the 1940s.

On March 24, Leti Garza releases her new EP, Borderland. The songs are meant to “bring awareness, compassion and understanding to the challenges facing us at the United States/Mexico border.” All proceeds will be donated to Global Response Management, which provides pre-hospital, emergency and trauma medicine in high-risk, low-resource areas. And this week on My KUTX, Garza brings that same empathy and heart to our airwaves as our guest DJ, playing a mix of current influences, old favorites, and sounds from around Austin and the world. Hear Leti Garza’s My KUTX on Saturday, March 20 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime in the player above.
