Rhett Miller is a rock-and-roll lifer. From the first time he heard R.E.M. he was hooked, dedicating himself to music either as the frontman of the Old 97’s or as a solo artist. Nobody writes classically simple songs like Miller. They often wear country and folk duds, but the Beatles, Bowie, and even R.E.M. are hidden in the melodies.
Miller recorded his new solo album The Traveler with Black Prairie, a Decemberists side project, and he stopped by KUTX to talk about it and play some of his favorite songs. Listen to Rhett Miller’s hour-long guest DJ set below his playlist.
Rhett Miller’s playlist:
1. Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s – “Long Legged Blonde Memphis”
