S.L. Houser is the KUTX Artist of the Month for January 2024, powered by PNC Bank.
Music scenes like Austin function because of the steady, often under-seen work of people like Sara Houser. She’s a lot of things: a musician, a music educator, an arranger, a producer, and a songwriter. Houser has led the rock band Löwin for years, while also playing or singing on records by Spoon, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Walker Lukens, and a whole bunch more. Music is, quite literally, life for her.
Over the last few years, Houser has been working under the name S.L. Houser, a solo enterprise that extends to a full band for shows. She recently wrapped up a tour of China, and she’s also celebrating the release of Hibiscus, her new EP. And this week on My KUTX, Houser is our guest DJ. Her mix features music that’s influenced her as a writer and musician, going back to childhood memories of Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple and continuing to the present day with favorites from Mitski and Radiohead. Hear S.L. Houser’s My KUTX on Saturday, January 13 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
