Back in March, Austin’s Star Parks had just released The New Sounds Of Late Capitalism, a wonderful record that earned the band an Artist of the Month nod and a slate of highly anticipated SXSW shows. And then, the pandemic hit our shores, shutting down Austin’s music scene. With its blend of orchestral whimsy and sour lyrics, Star Parks’ music feels oddly fitting for these past few months. We’re all stuck in a smog of doubt, trying our best to strike up the orchestra, oscillating between frenzy and slowness.
This week on My KUTX, Star Parks’ frontman Andy Bianculli takes over the airwaves, better late than never. His guest DJ set feels like some long-lost broadcast from an imaginary radio station, finding space for Brazilian psychedelia, space age surf rock, and of course, the immortal Burt Bacharach. Hear Star Parks’ My KUTX on Saturday, August 8 at 6 p.m. or anytime in the player at the top of the page.
