Tamir Kalifa

My KUTX // January 17th, 2026

Be it the best book you’ve never been able to put down or a painting that leaves you staring uninterrupted for minutes on end, single form media can be incredibly evocative on its own. But when it comes to art as therapy, art as a reflection of past events that still cause pause, sometimes multimedia is the only way to go.

That’s how we ended up with Witness, the upcoming performance pairing of poignant photos with sobering songwriting from longtime Austinite Tamir Kalifa. Inspired by Kalifa’s lauded photojournalism coverage of tragedies like mass shootings, natural disasters, and harsh immigration conditions, Witness is best appreciated in person – which you can do on Friday, January 23rd at The Long Center’s Rollins Theater.

Outside of the content itself though, Tamir took his Guest DJ opportunity to set the stage for his own musical tastes – including formative frameworks, Austin friends, and recent discoveries – giving us a better understanding of the sonic backdrop that Witness leans on.
