My KUTX: The Grassy Knoll

It’s almost impossible to describe the Grassy Knoll’s music: it’s psychedelic, it’s jazz, it’s experimental. Their own website says it best: “Established 1993. Relentlessly badass.” During their ‘90s heyday, the band collaborated with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Vernon Reid of Living Colour. The Grassy Knoll has been quiet for years, but founder Nolan Green restarted the project here in Austin and just released Electric Verdeland, Vol. 1 which features Vernon Reid alongside locals like Jon Dee Graham and Laura Scarborough of Golden Dawn Arkestra. The Grassy Knoll is our artist of the month, and you can learn more about the upcoming features here. Green also is this week’s guest DJ on My KUTX. Listen to his hour-long mix below his playlist.
