Mean Jolene began as a unique combination of members from local Austin acts Moving Panoramas, Basketball Shorts and Shivery Shakes in 2015. With their debut album, Salty released in early 2016 the poppy garage-surf rock supergroup was born. Now in 2019, with a new lineup and their most dynamic sound yet, the band is set to release their second LP Try Harder off ATH Records on September 6th.
On their second album, the band expands on themes of love, loss, and core member Jolie Cota Flink’s experience with bipolar disorder. With their signature, energetic pop sound juxtaposed with vulnerable lyrics, Mean Jolene’s live experiences packs more than one punch.
You can check out the premiere of their music video for their newest single off Try Harder, “Not Enough” shot at Antone’s before they took the stage earlier this year. And be sure to catch them this Saturday playing a free show at Nicolazas with Hope Irish and Nurk.
