Take ‘six white kids’ from the great Northwest. Stir in some Grateful Dead covers, and a little Spencer Davis group while you’re at it. Not the recipe you’d expect for a bonafide buzz band, but there is no doubt Pickwick is on to something. Something big. Embraced and championed by public radio (especially hometown station KEXP / Seattle), Pickwick’s style has morphed from a now familiar indie folk to something described by many music writers as neo-soul. They reject the label, of course, and you may too–once you get a whiff of ‘Lady Luck’, a song from their forthcoming self-released album “Can’t Talk Medicine” (which features an assist from Sharon Van Etten). Catch ’em while they’re small. You’re running out of time. Pickwick’s definitely ‘one to watch’ according to the music team at KUTX Austin.
