Merge Records said, “Their music can be classified as 21st-century folk music, imbued with dense shoegaze guitars, nearly melodic rhythms, and impeccable splashes of electronic color.” It’s a pretty spot on description of Baltimore band Wye Oak. After receiving vast critical acclaim for their last album, Civilian (2011), the dynamic duo is coming out with a fresh new sound in their upcoming record, Shriek, set to debut April 29. It contains no guitar, and instead features keyboard covering upper register (guitar-like) parts and bass guitar. The feel has been described as a strange mashup of Mercy-era St. Vincent mixed with a frightening alternative of Annie Lennox’s band, Eurthymics. Wye Oak on Facebook. Wye Oak on Twitter.
