Rod Melancon, Austin singer-songwriter by way of Louisiana, releases “Acoustic Sessions” available digitally starting 9.11.20
NPR LIVE SESSIONS/KUTX – Rod Melancon performs “Westgate” – Shot in East Austin by Jorge Sanhueza-Lyon for KUTX May 2020
Originally from Louisiana, Rod Melancon moved to LA when he was 18. After 10 years and many visits through Austin, Melancon decided to make the move to ATX for the good vibes and friends and also because he’s “always been interested in certain artist that have come out of Austin…It’s the home of Rocky Erickson. I’m not going anywhere.”
What put him on KUTX’s radar was last year’s release Pinkville, produced by Adrian Quesada. “I actually had to talk him [Quesada] into doing it. He thought I was going to want to record a typical sounding Americana record. I mentioned The Black Angels and we were off. By the end of the recording, we had become close friends.” The two have plans to team up again along with Will Walden.
Back in May, KUTX caught up with the Americana Gothic musician to record two stripped down performances, “Westgate” and “Corpus Christi Carwash” both originally on the Pinkville album.
Melancon thought, why not release those acoustic jams too?! Acoustic Sessions will be out September 11, 2020 digitally and he will be live streaming at 8pm from his Facebook page to celebrate.
