If this picture didn’t sell you on these guys, I don’t know what will. Austin’s American Sharks take the current garage punk craze and inject it with the sluggish heaviness of stoner metal. Imagine taking a bong rip and then immediately going skating afterwards because that’s exactly what this band sounds like. The instrumentation has this raw energy to it, but with a sinister undertone that surrounds it. With a sound like this, it’s no surprise that they describe their own music as “Satanic Overtures.” If you miss the music that made the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games such a delight to play, then you should definitely listen to American Sharks. They stopped by Studio 1A tonight, and you can also catch them at Sound on Sound Festival this Saturday!
