“In Austin, the holiday season doesn’t kick off until you’ve attended the Austin Gay Men’s Chorus holiday show — at least that is what was written on a number of audience comment cards last year,” says AGMC Board Chair Paul Halstead. Since its inception in 1989, the Austin Gay Men’s Chorus has grown from an initial 16 members to more than 150 gay men and their allies raising their voices in song to change minds, transform lives, and build community. This year, they’re kicking off the holiday season with Christmahanakawanzakah, a multi-cultural holiday show sure to brighten your spirit. As the title suggests, the performance will showcase a broad range of styles and influences. “We love celebrating diversity,” says Chorus Artistic Director Daniel Arredondo. “For the winter show we’re shaking up tradition and branching out to highlight a cultural spectrum of music – don’t worry, you can count on your holiday favorites making an appearance.”
The Austin Gay Men’s Chorus stopped by Studio 1A ahead of their shows this weekend at 8 p.m. Dec. 6 & 7 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 W 15th Street, Austin, 78701. Tickets, which start at $25, are available now. Check out the full session below.
