BNQT 10.24.17

BNQT have are serving up an indie-orientated feast for your ears. BNQT (pronounced “Banquet”) is an indie rock supergroup formed in 2013 by members of Franz Ferdinand, Grandaddy, Band of Horses, Travis and Midlake. The band is the brainchild of Midlake frontman, Eric Pulido, who thought of the idea while on tour in 2013. The basic concept was to bring together a group of people he admired in order to try and showcase their best traits; every singer would contribute two tracks that would be backed by musicians from Midlake. The result of this collaboration is Volume 1, recorded both remotely over email and in a studio in Denton, Texas and released at the start of this year. The album is an elaborate push out from the artist’s comfort zones, while still managing to remain delightfully familiar. The tracks are reliably melodic and guitar driven; a generous serving of rock-nostalgia peppered with elements of orchestra and psychedelia. The group have managed to create something cohesive and delightful, despite working for different bands in different camps. BNQT stopped past Studio 1A ahead of their show at Empire Control Room.
