Brigitte Calls Me Baby looks back to the future on their debut album, The Future Is Our Way Out
Brigitte Calls Me Baby is a Chicago-based indie pop band that emerged in early 2023. The band’s name nods to frontman Wes Leavins’ teenage pen-pal correspondence with iconic French actress Brigitte Bardot. Shortly after their formation, Leavins was invited to contribute music to Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film Elvis, where he met Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (known for his work with Jason Isbell and Brandi Carlile). This collaboration led to the recording of their debut album, The Future Is Our Way Out, which was released on August 7, 2023, under ATO Records.
The album showcases a vibrant blend of unapologetic love songs, infused with existential themes and rock ‘n’ roll energy. Critics have praised its exuberance, emphasizing the multi-generational influences that push beyond nostalgia. Leavins’ swoon-inducing vocals soar over the dynamic instrumentation, creating a sound that feels both fresh and timeless. As they tour in support of their debut LP, Brigitte Calls Me Baby is establishing themselves as a compelling force in the indie music scene.
