The time has come: Calexico and Iron and Wine have finally reunited with their latest album, Years to Burn, nearly 15 years after the release of their EP, In The Reins. With each act boasting long, successful careers and diverse catalogs, making a collaborative record in a few days after almost 15 years apart seemed like a difficult feat. However, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) mentioned to KUTX host Elizabeth McQueen that this record simply picked up where him and Joey Burns (Calexico) left off all those years ago. “It was a good way to capture a snapshot and not overthink things.” The result of their quick decision-making and easy-going communication is a record that takes many risks that pay off for the collaborators, showing that years apart doesn’t necessarily make a bond any less strong.
The indie veterans stopped by Studio 1A ahead of their show at Stubb’s to talk to KUTX host Elizabeth McQueen and play some songs for our in-studio audience. Listen to the full session and an unaired bonus track below!
