Those of us who have been around Austin for a minute are no strangers to Curtis McMurtry, the third generation of McMurtrys to grace the Austin music scene with their heartfelt, honest music. Curtis takes a step out of his family’s shadow; he studied music composition and ethnomusicology in college and has readily adopted those experiences into his music. Joining forces with Mother Falcon’s Diana Burgess on cello, Magia Negra’s Taylor Turner, and trumpeter Nathan Calzada, Curtis McMurtry writes clever, tightly constructed songs that can’t help but tug at your heartstrings. He’s got an album coming out this weekend, and it promises to be a more mature, developed sound from this storied Austin music family. Curtis McMurtry stopped by Studio 1A to give us a sneak peak of some of his new tunes, check them out below!
