David Wax Museum fearlessly and seamlessly blends traditional Mexican and American sounds to create a genre of music that they call “Mexo-Americana.” It’s been done before, by bands like Calexico, but not the way that David Wax Museum does it. The band is primarily David Wax and Suz Slezak, who provide the tight harmonies and artistic core of the band, with talented multi-instrumentalist Greg Glassman filling things out. The tunes on their latest album, Knock Knock Get Up, laces field recordings and found sounds from Santiago, Tuxtla in the Mexican state of Veracruz into the music to create a really interesting texture.
