Deezie Brown 8.12.22

Michael Minasi/KUTX

On his second visit to Studio 1A, Bastrop native Deezie Brown traded the sample-heavy backing tracks of his earlier work for a stellar band capable of turning the songs on his ambitious new concept album, 5th Wheel Fairytale, into an unforgettable live show. In addition to amping up his onstage performances, the live instrumentation helped Deezie create a more intimate and accessible album that highlights his considerable skills as a songwriter and producer. To help corral these new sounds, Deezie Brown turned to a handful of Austin musicians including longtime friend and accomplished producer, Malik. Together, they transformed Deezie’s quasi-fictional characters and semi-autobiographical stories into a cinematic collection of songs that pay tribute to the family members, musicians, and candy blue Chevys that made him the person he is today.

From the album opener’s powerful first piano chords to the free-wheeling trumpets and bouncing keys on closer, “My Little Turbo 500,” Deezie Brown takes the listener on a sonic adventure full of ups and downs, epic wins and life-altering losses. While here he shared some of the stories behind the songs and let us in on plans for future projects surrounding the new album including an accompanying animated film. If you want to learn more about our August 2022 Artist of the Month and his new album 5th Wheel Fairytale, check our interview here, and make plans to catch Deezie and band Friday, August 19 at Hotel Vegas.
