Earl Poole Ball at KUTX 7.31.2013

Earl Poole Ball certainly has an impressive resume. The producer, songwriter, musician, and arranger is internationally known as “Mr. Honky Tonk Piano,” and he describes himself as a “rockabilly piano player and singer”. He grew up in Foxworth, Mississippi, but eventually moved out to California, where he worked with a number of musicians as a piano player and sideman. He toured as a member of the Johnny Cash Show for twenty years, appearing on television shows and performing at all types of venues, including state fairs and rodeos, across the country. He had a close relationship with Mr. Cash, who left him his white baby grand, which now sits in Ball’s living room, when he died. Finally, after Cash’s death, Ball moved to Austin in 1999 at the encouragement of Dale Watson, and his career is still going strong today. He’s had recording sessions with musicians including Merle Haggard, Glen Campbell, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

These days, he plays with Heybale!, one of his many bands, every Sunday night at the Continental Club, and he was in our studio for a live performance on Wednesday, July 31st, right here on 98.9 – check it out right here!
