Elias Haslanger & Church on Monday 2.8.2016

When the old meets new, the encounter can be somewhat off putting. However, for Elias Haslanger there is no loss of translation as he converges older jazz styles with a new, fresh flavor that is truly one-of-a-kind. Elias stopped by Studio 1A on Monday to share with us an extraordinary performance with his band, Church on Monday. Hailing from Texas and a current resident of Austin, Haslanger is a highly praised saxophonist, composer and band leader. Haslanger’s phenomenal style of playing bridges old influences such as John Coltrane and Ben Webster, which has lead him to have toured with renowned acts such as Alejandro Escovedo, the Temptations and Asleep at the Wheel. The Austin saxophonist has gone on to receive awards including but not limited to, “Best Horn Player” from the Austin Chronicle, as well as many chart topping albums, including his latest highly praised record titled, LIVE at the Gallery.

With such an outstanding resume, Haslanger continues his perfecting his craft here in Austin where you can see him and his band perform at The Continental Club, every Monday from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. You can also stream his music here on KUTX.
