Elijah Ford is making a strong case that at least not all California transplants are so bad. Although Ford has called Austin home for a while now, he’s spent much of his time on the road–first cutting his teeth touring with Oscar & Grammy award winning musician Ryan Bingham, followed by a two year European and U.S. tour. His heavy tour schedule has been punctuated with a few releases starting with his solo debut Upon Waking, an EP titled Ashes, and his sophomore record, As You Were, is ready for release later this month on September 16th.
After touring for half a decade, its fair to say that Ford is well acquainted with the trials of musician life, but he was never a stranger to it in the first place. As the son of Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford, Elijah grew up surrounded by music and rockstars, but despite the larger than life characters he was probably exposed to throughout his youth, the younger Ford’s music is unaffected and unpretentious. If “Try As You Might,” the first released single from As You Were, is any indication of what is to come, we can expect an album full well crafted but no frills pop/rock.
Elijah Wood and his band the Bloom are on their way to Angers France for ATX6, but made some time to stop by Studio 1A. Check out the performance at the bottom of the page.
