Erika Wennerstrom first became known as the face of Heartless Bastards, an Ohio rock band that gained huge support locally after moving to Austin. Now, with a new album Sweet Unknown, Wennerstrom is finding her own as a solo artist.

Ahead of her sold-out show at the Cactus Erika stopped by Studio 1A to play two covers of Townes Van Zandt songs that she recently released as a tribute to his career. When asked about her experience performing solo for the first time, she admitted that it has been a challenging experience but finding “strength in her vulnerabilities” has been key. She also talks touring Europe with Patty Griffin and working on a new album, all in between two beautiful renditions of Van Zandt classics.
