Austin native and guitar goddess Jackie Venson is on a roll. Forbes recently named her one of “15 Women-Fronted Musical Acts Getting Their Due At SXSW 2019.” In addition, Venson is the third woman in 37 years and first African American woman be dubbed “Best Guitarist” at the Austin Music Awards. Venson is all about female empowerment. Uplifting lyrics paired with impeccable guitar skills make for a powerful sound that she owns. Venson’s new album, Joy, is out April 5 and showcases her ability to master many genres. A self-proclaimed “Genre Hopper,” Venson talks with Jay Trachtenberg about what to expect on her new album and her upcoming shows in Austin. A listening party for Joy will be at Native Hostel on April 4. Followed by that will be an album release show at Paramount Theater April 12 w/ Sweet Spirit. Venson will be performing with her full band creating a sound and a night that is sure to be unforgettable.
