Jimbo Mathus grew up in his hometown of Oxford , Mississippi with his very musical family and was immersed in music from the beginning of his life, able to play most instruments by the age of 15. Sure enough, after working as a deckhand and tanker on the Mississippi, Illinois, and Tennesee rivers, traveling across the states, and studying philosophy at Mississippi State University, Mathus began a successful career as a blues musician, forming the nationally popular swing revival band Squirrel Nut Zippers in the early ‘90s. Mathus now plays with his band the Tri-State Coalition, and they released their most recent album “White Buffalo” this past January.
You can catch him at The Continental Club or you can play a few tracks from their session in Studio 1A to whet your whistle. Enjoy!
