The son of an Englishman and Zimbabwean mother, Johnny Clegg has roots in both South Africa and England. The multicultural perspective this fostered certainly weaved it’s way into Clegg’s music, a cool combination of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms. It also informs his lyrics. Beyond being a talented singer-songwriter, Clegg is also a dancer, anthropologist, and political activist. His outspoken perspective on migrant workers in South Africa and other worldly issues are inspiration for his songs and have helped garner him international success and earn a multitude of awards for his music and humanitarian efforts. Don’t miss Johnny Clegg with us live Wednesday March 18 at 2 p.m. and on the 19th at Austin’s One World Theater.
