Josh Ritter 1.11.18

Josh Ritter began his musical career covering songs from the 80s in a bluegrass style with the Love Cannon String Band. His current incarnation with the Royal City Band continues to transform Americana. Joan Baez has covered his songs on her past albums and will do so again in her final album. The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir has enlisted Ritter’s songwriting skills in his solo projects, and in turn, is featured in Gathering, Ritter’s latest album released in September 2017. Josh Ritter stopped by Studio 1A to play a solo session before headlining at ACL Live’s Moody Theater with his Royal City Band. In this session, Ritter exemplifies the full range of his folk prowess. You’ll get to hear the fast-paced optimism of “Feels Like Lightining,” the energetically ironic “Oh Lord, Pt.3”, and his solemn, “Thunderbolt’s Goodnight.” Played on his Gibson guitar, Ritter’s music is earnest, raw, and truly enjoyable. Aside from being a prolific songwriter, Ritter is also an acclaimed novelist and visual artist, describing art as a means of self-medication and a way to clear his mind.
