The artist and her art – Katy Kirby’s Blue Raspberry grows alongside her

Blue Raspberry is Katy Kirby’s latest look into queer intimacy. Originally from Spicewood, Texas, The now Nashville-based artist grew up an evangelical Christian, influenced heavily by the simple structures of worship music, chorus verse chorus verse. However, as Kirby has grown into her artistry, she has moved toward her own sound of extravagant melodies and intense chord progressions, the same passion as a song of worship. Her lyrics explore themes of yearning and the journey of loving someone, and the album itself is about her realization of her sexuality and her first queer relationship.

Her debut album, Cool Dry Place, received positive attention in 2021, even making quite a few best albums of the year lists. In 2023, she signed to ANTI- Records, releasing Blue Raspberry under the label in January of 2024. Katy Kirby’s live performances are ones filled with tender melodies combined with playful banter with both her bandmates and her audience. She recently performed at The Ballroom in Austin, but if you missed it, you can still experience her artistry live by checking out her future tour dates here.
