East LA’s Las Cafeteras fuses their rhythmic melodies with a strong sense of community.
Seven-piece Las Cafeteras, known as “that band from the café,” formed in 2008 receiving their name from the Eastside Café, the community space around which they came together. Weaving traditional Son Jarocho, hip hop, folk, and Native American influences together, their songs feature crisp and thick instrumentation, soaring vocals, and socially conscious lyrics. The band’s 2014 debut It’s Time delivered their bi-lingual message of unity with a collection of politically charged swayable grooves, seamlessly blending tradition and innovation.
Las Cafeteras will be playing at the Flamingo Cantina tonight, April 16th, and you can stream their music right here on KUTX.
