Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt come from different backgrounds – Lyle is, of course a Texan, and Hiatt a Hoosier – but they meet in the middle as great songwriters.
And though they didn’t actually meet at Austin’s Paramount Theater, Lovett first saw Hiatt performing there with Ry Cooder in 1981. Between their two shows at that venue, the duo stopped by KUTX’s Studio 1A to trade tunes and tales. We learned that as much as we thought we knew about these gentlemen from their songs, well, we got a lot more insight after hearing them interact….
