Pianist Marco Benevento occupies an amorphous space between jazz and indie rock, delivering adventurous and catchy melodies with a wash of sunshine.
A highly active and innovative musician, Benevento started performing with the Jazz Farmers, followed by the Benevento-Russo Duo in which he partnered with drummer Joe Russo, until starting to lead his own band in 2006. His mainly instrumental releases are rich and densely packed, his songs flexing the boundaries of genre, with Benevento often making use of effects pedals, synthesizers, drum machines, and circuit bent toys. His last release Swift is an energetic and layered collection of unusual pop songs featuring his vocals for the first time.
